Monsignor Dillon to be honored

Fri, 06/08/2007 (All day)

ATLANTA – Spring Hill College has been offering graduate programs in theology in the Atlanta area for 10 years, and graduates and friends of the program will gather Saturday, Feb. 3 to celebrate the milestone and to honor Monsignor Edward J. Dillon, pastor of Holy Spirit Catholic Church, whose commitment helped to bring the program to Atlanta. The dinner event will begin at 6:30 p.m. at Holy Spirit’s McDonough Hall, 4465 Northside Drive N.W.

Spring Hill's theology program has been offered in the Archdiocese of Atlanta since 1997 and is based at Holy Spirit. Fully accredited by the Southern Association of Schools and Colleges (SACS) and approved by the Georgia Nonpublic Postsecondary Commission, the program provides high-quality, graduate-level education for laypeople, deacons, religious educators and others. In Atlanta, five three-credit courses and a summer program are offered each year. Certificates, audits and undergraduate level courses are also available for those not seeking master’s-level preparation.

The program provides a study of all major areas of theology in the Catholic tradition (biblical, moral, historical, pastoral and systematic). It is ecumenical in perspective and designed for persons with varying levels of previous theological background.

In Atlanta, there are teachers and lay ministers, school principals, archdiocesan program directors, lawyers and physicians, as well as non-Catholics enrolled in the program. Many students and graduates are working as catechists and lay ministers serving the growing Roman Catholic population of the Archdiocese of Atlanta.
