Dr. Dewey Weiss Kramer to speak March 19 at St. John's Bible lecture

Fri, 02/27/2009 (All day)

Feb. 27, 2009

MOBILE – Dr. Dewey Weiss Kramer will speak at the St. John’s Bible lecture from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, March 19 in Byrne Memorial Hall on the Spring Hill College campus. Kramer will present “Visio Divina: Using the Illuminations of The St. John’s Bible to Deepen our Relationship to the Incarnate Word.”

The St. John’s Bible, currently on exhibit at the Mobile Museum of Art, is the first handwritten and illuminated Bible since the Reformation. Kramer’s lecture will explore the fundamental role that visualization has played in God’s self–revelation in biblical faith. As the Word made Flesh, Jesus is himself the first icon, the paradigm for visio divina in the Christian tradition. The St. John’s Bible has also brought intentionally contemporary and ecumenical dimensions to the illustrations, as a witness to the fact that God’s Word is as present in today’s society and culture as it has been in the past.

Admission is free and the event is open to the public. For more information contact the Spring Hill College Division of Philosophy and Theology at (251) 380-4660.
